Futurama Gets Revived on Comedy Central

eqf7lwlnI was a huge fan of the show Futurama (and still am). When the show got cancelled years ago despite high ratings I was a little more than pissed. While shows like American Dad (not nearly as entertaining) were left to fill the void as well as four Futurama films frankly it wasn’t the same. So you could imagine how excited I was today when circulating rumors of the show’s return were confirmed by Entertainment Weekly, and that the show is indeed being revived by Comedy Central.

While the series will be returning sometime in 2010, when word came that the show’s revival will include 26 episodes in total the news was eagerly received by fans. No doubt audiences will remember Family Guy being resurrected from the pile of cancelled shows in the wake of high DVD sales. Now if both television shows were cancelled by Fox, it seems the studio is getting the reputation for cancelling quality shows prematurely (i.e. Arrested Development, The War at Home, Grounded for Life, etc.) and leaving other network to pick up the slack. WTF Fox?

“Futurama was another series that fans simply demanded we bring back,” said 20th Century Fox TV Chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden in a press release, “and we couldn’t have been happier when Matt and David agreed that there were many more stories yet to tell.”

I couldn’t be happier for the show or, more importantly, as a fan of the show. I can’t wait to pick up some Slurm and Bachelor Chow when I go to the store. Maybe I’ll stop by Planet Express and say high to the gang on the way.
