Now normally I don’t like to use my blog as a soapbox to tout the latest high-end technology out there on the market but this post actually has a creative component to it.
The last iPod I purchased was a 1 GB Nano in August of 2006 while I was working for the York University Archives during the summer. Nanos were the latest and greatest music player technology at the time (having been released less than six months prior). Ultimately, I don’t listen to that much music so considering I’ve had the thing for nearly three years it withstood the tests of time quite well.
Last week, however, through some series of unfortunate events the screen got cracked, making it impossible to view the contents of the player on the screen (in other words, my Nano became a Shuffle). So now that I’m working full-time my real question was “Do I get a new iPod for relatively cheap or do I upscale to the latest iTouch?” I renewed my contract with Tellus Mobility last October so getting an iPhone didn’t seem practical.
My reasons, however, are sound. Basically, between blogging, novel writing, and entering contests, I have very little time to write short stories, so I figured there must an App out there that allows me to write on the go, say while waiting for the bus.
To make a long story short I bit the bullet and purchased a second-generation 8G iTouch and it’s just a fantastic piece of technology. It’s amazing how quickly technology progresses in just a three year period. Now I can surf the net, send email, check the weather, access Google maps, oh, and listen to music of course.
One App I want to concentrate on though is called ‘Touch Type’, basically the App for any writer on the go. In essence, it’s a word processing application that allows for quick save, deletion, and the ability to email your work to your email account. But two things it does particularly well is (1) allows you to use the keyboard in layout format and (2) is incredibly intuitive (what I mean by this is it allows you to only type ‘dont’ without switching to a second keyboard for the apostrophe, or hitting the space bar twice to add a period, stuff like that).
I like to look at the big picture, and I can honestly say that the iTouch will help me out in ways unimaginable. Just my two cents. Check them out Here.
