New Years Resolutions #25 Complete: Create a Portfolio of all Stories Written from 2005-2008

One of my New Years Resolutions was to take all of my short stories written over the past five years and edit and format them once and for all. This was not for the sake of my New Years Resolutions mind you, this actually came about when I realized that some of these stories I’d written more than five years ago were actually still enjoyable to read. So last weekend, the long Victoria day weekend in Canada, I decided to take on the arduous task of going through each story one at a time and masterfully crafting each one for the first time in years.
‘Flush’ is a collection of twelve short stories for Generation Y, twelve tales that looked at the jobs we were promised but never got, the impotence that comes with being a man in today’s millennium, and the failure of the American Dream. So in an effort to get published I will be shopping around this collection to small presses and other related publishing houses around Canada and the United States, another piece of fiction to add to my arsenal of creative works. Frankly, I didn’t know why this didn’t occur to me soon.
For anyone who’s interested in a sample, here is the first story entitled ‘Grievous Bodily Harm’. It’s actually an abridged version and holds a special place in my heart because it won me the 2005 Haunted short story contest when Chuck Palahniuk’s collection of the same name was just being released by Random House four years ago. Will I be successful? Only time will tell.
