2009 Sunburst Award Nominees Announced
While many hold the Prix Aurora Award as the de facto science fiction award in Canada, in my opinion it is the Sunburst Award. Why? Because it’s juried by a panel. When you base a novel more on its literary merit rather than the popularity of the author—as the Auroras are chosen at each annual [...]
The 2009 Endeavour Award Finalists Announced
I’ll be honest, I’m not as familiar with the Endavour Awards Awards as some of the more recognized awards for science fiction and fantasy out there (i.e. the Hugos, the Nebula, etc.), however, this is largely because they are regionally-based. In this case that region happens to be the Pacific Northwest.
Three novels and two collections [...]
Locus Award Winners Announced
To me the Locus Awards are much more than a popularity contest. They are a symbol of the times and a fantastic indicator of any trends we’re seeing in the genre or with the reading public. Every year Locus Magazine, the trade magazine for the science fiction and fantasy publishing industry, holds its annual Locus [...]

2009 Chesley Award Nominations Announced
The nominees for the 2009 Chesley Award were recently announced and the list is impressive. For those unaware of this award, the Chelseys are given for excellence in science fiction and fantasy art or illustration. The award began in 1985 and is run by the Association for Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists (ASFA). The award [...]
2009 Campbell Award Finalists Announced
I’m going to be completely honest with you here. I like writing awards posts. They’re easy, short, and you can’t be sued since much of the information is already public knowledge anyway. But one of the things I do like (what many don’t know in fact) is unlike the Hugos, Nebulas, and basically every other [...]

2009 Mythopoeic Awards Finalists
Now a lot of people are probably going to give me a hard time with this post considering it has nothing to do with science fiction and more to do with fantasy than anything else. Nevertheless, since there are many commonalities between the two genres and both are inclusive to all readers I thought people [...]
Sturgeon Award Finalists Announced
While I don’t keep up to date with the latest in short fiction by science fiction/fantasy authors I realize that a lot of my readers do. I also know the painstakingly arduous task that comes with writing short fiction, so when the annual Sturgeon Award Finalists are announced, you can be sure I’ll write a [...]
