While many had high hopes for 9, the computer-animated sci-fi/action film directed by Shane Acker and produced by Tim Burton, however, the actual box office numbers tell a different story. In its opening weekend (as the film debuted last Wednesday on September 9) the release was marked by rather lackluster numbers in terms of box office revenue, taking in a disappointing total of US$10.9 million and coming in second place after Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All by Myself, which took in more than double at US$24 million.

The cumulative total for 9 over its six-day period since its opening has been $15.3 million, barely recouping half of its budget from Relativity Media. Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds held at number 3 with a gross of US$6.5 million this weekend bringing its total to more than US$104.3 worldwide. Nevertheless, Gamer failed to reach the top five totaling less than five million. The fourth movie in the final destination franchise ‘The Final Destination’ clenched the fifth spot with a total of US$5.5 million bringing its total to US$55.

Coming off his most recent acting role in Tarantino’s Inglorious Bastards as Donny Donowitz (otherwise known as the bat-wielding militant known as the ‘Bear Jew’) many have questioned what can we expect from Eli Roth in the near future. Few will remember not too long ago that Roth was slated to direct the adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, The Cell, which fell through due to time devoted to other projects.

In a recent interview with Esquire Magazine, Roth had this to say:

“I’m finishing two screenplays. One is a sci-fi movie called ‘Endangered Species’ – it’s kind of in the vein of ‘Cloverfield’ – and right after that, I want to shoot Thanksgiving, a full-feature version of my slasher trailer from Grindhouse. I want to make it the highest-body-count holiday slasher film in history. Ten years from now, I want people to be like, ‘I can’t think of Thanksgiving without that image of the human body on the dinner table stuffed like a turkey. Eli Roth ruined it for us.’”

There’s already rumors circulating that Roth is in development with a second sequel to his box-office success, Hostel, thus completing the trilogy, however, it seems for now only time will tell for what the future holds for Roth’s directorial prowess. Below is the faux trailer for Thanksgiving from Tarantino’s Grindhouse for your viewing pleasure.

I’m a huge Quentin Tarantino fan, like many of those of my generation. However, I only discovered his films late into my teens years. When Kill Bill: Volume One was released five years ago I just met the cut for its R-rating. I’d regretted, however, never watching Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction in high school so before seeing Kill Bill I decided to purchase both DVDs in order to get up to speed.

Sufficed to say it began my love affair with Tarantino films. And while I think both volumes of Kill Bill are two of the best movies of this decade, Planet Terror was sort of hit or miss. So you could imagine my excitement when I heard that a teaser trailer was recently released of his latest flick entitled Inglourious Basterds to be released this August.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, “two story lines converge: One follows a group of prisoners-turned-soldiers whose mission is to take down a group of Nazis, and the other follows a young Jewish woman who seeks to avenge the death of her parents by this Nazi group.”

Here’s the teaser trailer below:
